NEW YORK, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Singer Darlene Love performed her Holiday anthem "Christmas (Baby Come Home)" for the last time on Late Show with David Letterman Friday.

The performance was especially significant as this will be the last holiday season for Letterman as host of the show. Love recently spoke of her longstanding tradition of singing the track on the night television talk show and revealed "this would be [her] 28th year in a row" doing so.

"They never told me not to, but it was an unspoken thing. They couldn't ask me not to sing 'Christmas (Baby)' on another show, but after 10 years, then 15 years, of doing this one song on this one show, I felt I had an obligation to be true to them," she told Billboard.

Having performed the track on Late Show for almost three decades, Love told The New York Times Thursday she would not sing it for any other tv show once Letterman retires in May.

But the 73-her-old singer isn't planning to retire the track along with the host and instead hopes to put together a Christmas show alongside Letterman's longtime music director Paul Shaffer.

"A Paul Shaffer-Darlene Love Christmas show somewhere in New York. I'm sure it would sell out," she told Billboard.

"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" debuted in 1963 as part of Love's compilation album, A Christmas Gift for You from Philles Records.
