Cher cancels remaining tour dates over viral infection

News of the cancellation comes two months after the singer delayed the second leg of the tour over an "acute viral infection."

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Singer Cher has cancelled the remaining dates of her Dress to Kill tour after a viral infection she got two months ago began "affecting her kidney function."

The 68-year-old singer's team made the announcement Thursday in a press release that explained that "while her progress has been consistent," Cher's "doctors have advised her to take more time to ensure a complete and total recovery."

"I am totally devastated. Nothing like this has ever happened to me," the singer said in a statement. "I cannot apologize enough to all the fans who bought tickets. I'm so proud of this show. It is my best ever. I sincerely hope that we can come back again next year and finish what we started."

News of the cancellation comes two months after the singer delayed the second leg of the tour over an "acute viral infection." Thursday's release noted that ticket holders would be able to get refunds a their points of purchase.
