Joan Manuel Serrat named Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- The Latin Recording Academy presented Spanish singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat with its 2014 Person of the Year Award at a pre-Latin Grammys ceremony in Las Vegas Wednesday night.

Honored with career achievement prizes at the glitzy gala were Willy Chirino, Cesar Costa, Carlos do Carmo, Duo Dinamico, Los Lobos, Valeria Lynch and Ney Matogrosso.

Music executive Andre Midani and composer Juan Vicente Torrealba were recognized with Trustees Awards for their non-performance contributions to the industry.

Winners of the Latin Grammys for achievements in music in 2014 are to be announced Thursday evening in Las Vegas.
