Metal musician Wayne Static dead at 48

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Musician Wayne Richard Wells, better known as Wayne Static, has died at the age of 48, his former heavy metal band Static-X announced on Facebook late Saturday.

"Wayne Static was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X, who later forged a successful solo career. Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months," the message said.

No additional information, such as the cause and location of his death, was immediately available.

Static helped found the band in 1994 and was the last original member when it broke up last year.
