CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Miranda Lambert had an emotional moment during a recent concert in Texas as she serenaded a 7-year-old girl with cancer.

Lambert was in the middle of singing Over You at American Bank Center Arena in Corpus Christi, when she accepted a gift from the girl, Brooke Hester.

Hester has neuroblastoma, a type of cancer of the nerve tissue, and was sporting decorative, pink cowboy hat and a face mask as she sat in the front row of the concert with her mother, Jessica.

Lambert grabbed the girl's hand and held on as she sang most of the words to the song. At one point, apparently overcome with emotion, the country singer holds her microphone out for the crowd to help sing along.

Jessica Hester told Today.com it was a special moment for the little girl.

"It was very emotional and very special," she said. "It just took my breath away when I looked up, and I got the chance to look at Miranda Lambert and thank her, as she was holding Brooke's hand, for her complete compassion that she was demonstrating to my daughter in front of all these people. And then I just kept thinking, 'Oh, my gosh, she's still holding her hand, she's still holding her hand, she's still holding her hand!' And she wasn't letting go. You could just feel the love surrounding the moment."

Brooke said she thought Lambert "was really cool."

"She must really like me," she added.

"Miranda Lambert deserves all the exposure she gets for that moment, and I think Brooke does, too," said Jessica Hester's husband, Beau Hester, who was at home the night of the concert. "What an amazing moment, and what a truly caring person. That kind of moment is so genuine."

Three years ago, the family founded Brooke's Blossoming Hope, a charity benefitting awareness of childhood cancers, research and donates decorative headbands for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
