Founded in the East Village in 1973, CBGB is considered the birthplace of American punk rock, introducing the world to the music of acts like The Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, Talking Heads and Blondie. The venue closed its doors in 2006 due to a rent dispute between its manager and the building's owner.
