Paul McCartney returns to the stage, helps couple get engaged

ALBANY, N.Y., July 7 (UPI) -- Paul McCartney helped two fans get engaged upon his return to the stage this weekend.

The 72-year-old musician played in Albany, N.Y., on Saturday, his first concert since his lengthy illness and hospitalization. McCartney noticed two fans in the audience during the performance -- one with a sign that said, "He won't marry me 'til he meets you, and another with, "I've got the ring and I'm 64" -- and brought the couple forward during his second encore.

John Dann and girlfriend Claudia came on stage, where Dann proceeded to sing the refrain of "When I'm Sixty-Four," which McCartney wrote for The Beatles. The musician and his band joined in briefly before Dann popped the question to audience applause.

McCartney continues his Out There tour Monday in Pittsburgh, Pa. He has rescheduled his canceled June U.S. tour dates for October.
