LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- Adam Levine went the traditional route when he proposed to Behati Prinsloo.

The 35-year-old Maroon 5 singer briefly discussed the milestone on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM radio program Monday. Levine was tight-lipped about his bride-to-be, but did say he asked permission to propose from her father.

"I did ask his permission," he reveals. "I don't want to talk about it, you know how I am, but yes, of course I did. I had to. And it was extremely nerve-wracking."

Levine and Prinsloo started dating in April 2012. The couple broke up in March 2013, but reconciled and became engaged four months later. They plan to marry in Mexico this summer.

"He realized he really does love her and she was the one," a source told Us Weekly of the pair's temporary split. Prinsloo has reportedly inspired a serious change in the former serial dater, and Levine even apologized to his exes in order to enter his marriage with a clean slate.
