SAN BRUNO, Calif., May 31 (UPI) -- It may have been nearly two years since Psy's Gangnam Style hit the airwaves, but the catchy K-pop tune is still as popular as ever, surpassing a record-breaking 2 billion views mark on YouTube.

Seventeen months after the video was uploaded to the video website, the song hit 2 billion views Friday.

"Two billion views...they are very honorable and very burdensome numbers," Psy said via a statement. "With appreciation, I will come back soon with more joyful contents!!"

The viral song and dance spurred a U.S. interest in K-pop and spent seven weeks at the No. 2 position on Billboard's Hot 100 list.

Psy is expected to release a full-length LP soon.
