Journey frontman Steve Perry performs for the first time in 19 years

Perry last performed solo in 1995, and last performed with Journey in 1991.

ST. PAUL, Minn., May 27 (UPI) -- Fans at The Eels concert Sunday in St. Paul, Minn., were treated to a rare performance by former Journey frontman Steve Perry.

The 65-year-old musician last performed solo in 1995, and last performed with Journey in 1991. He has had health problems in recent years, but made a surprise appearance at the Fitzgerald Theater over the weekend.

The singer first took the stage to perform Eels song It's a Mother[expletive] with the band. The performance was met with thunderous applause, leading Eels frontman Mark Everett to joke, "They don't applaud like that for me! I guess I gotta disappear for 25 years!"

Perry and The Eels went on to perform Journey hits Open Arms and Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'.
