AUSTIN, Texas, April 24 (UPI) -- Emo fans, rejoice -- Mineral plans to reunite.

The 1990s emo band plan to reunite for a series of shows to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary. The performances will be their first in 17 years, and frontman Chris Simpson says the sets "will be the icing on the cake" of the band's reunion.

"Reconnecting with each other and this material for the first time in 17 years has been a real joy and pleasure," the singer writes. "We are grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to getting to play for all the people who have loved us all along as well as the many who have discovered us posthumously along the way."

Simpson, Scott McCarver, Jeremy Gomez and Gabriel Wiley formed Mineral in Texas in 1994. The band released two albums, The Power of Failing (1997) and EndSerenading (1998), but broke up in 1998. All four members subsequently moved on to other projects, such as The Gloria Record and Pop Unknown.

The reunion tour kicks off September 5 in New York City, and comes to a close November 2 in Gainesville, Florida.
