NASHVILLE, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Trace Adkins' publicist says the U.S. country music star has checked into rehab for alcohol addiction after getting into a brawl on a cruise ship.

"Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism," Adkins' representative said in a statement Thursday. "As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family's privacy will be respected."

The 52-year-old singer was headlining a country music cruise to Jamaica when he got into an argument with a Trace Adkins impersonator singing karaoke in a ship bar, TMZ reported.

People.com said the real Adkins got off the ship in Jamaica and headed straight for rehab.
