Jay Z earns nine Grammy nods, including rap album of the year

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. rapper Jay Z leads the field this year with nine Grammy nominations, including best rap performance and best rap album, the Recording Academy announced.

The nominations were announced Friday at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre L.A. Live during a concert hosted by LL Cool J, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Jay Z's nominations also included best pop duo/group performance, best music video and two for best rap/sung collaboration.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar and Justin Timberlake each nabbed seven nominations, and Drake had five.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Lamar will square off against one another for album of the year. Nominees for that field also include Sara Bareilles, Daft Punk and Taylor Swift.

Record of the year nominees include Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams, Imagine Dragons, Lorde, Bruno Mars and Robin Thicke, featuring T.I. & Pharrell Williams.

The Grammys awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at 8 p.m. EST Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
