8 injured at Yardfest concert at Howard University

WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Eight people, including two police officers, were injured when a crowd stormed the gates at Howard University's Yardfest concert, Washington, D.C., police said.

For the first time in the two decades since the annual homecoming concert began, the concert was a ticketed event because school officials deemed it unsafe to have more than 14,000 people in the campus quad where the event is held, The Washington Post reported Friday.

In previous years, the concert was free and open to the public.

Fans without tickets rushed the gates outside the quad Friday, injuring eight people, including two police officers, one of whom suffered a wrist injury, the Post said. Most of the injuries were minor.

The concert was put on hold for an hour until the crowd calmed down and the injured were treated.
