LAS VEGAS, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- National Park Service rangers say they are investigating why entertainer Wayne Newton's 65-foot yacht sank on the Arizona side of Lake Mead.

The unoccupied 1996 Skipperliner "Rendezvous" took on water while docked at Temple Bar Marina last Friday, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

Newton's representative told the newspaper the luxury boat contained family photos and artwork when it was submerged.

A preliminary investigation indicates an equipment failure caused the ship to sink, the Sun said.
