NEW YORK, July 24 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning U.S. actor Christopher Walken is to star in Clint Eastwood's upcoming movie musical "Jersey Boys," the BBC reported.

Walken, 70, will play gangster Angelo "Gyp" DeCarlo in the film adaptation of the blockbuster stage show about the origins of the New Jersey rock 'n' roll band Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

The BBC said the film version is to start shooting in September.

Best known for playing tough-guy roles in dramas such as "The Deer Hunter," "True Romance" and "Seven Psychopaths," Walken is also a dancer who showed off his training in the Fatboy Slim video "Weapon of Choice" and co-starred in the big-screen version of the musical "Hairspray."
