SAYREVILLE, N.J., July 9 (UPI) -- Rock star Jon Bon Jovi donated $1 million to help rebuild parts of his home state of New Jersey hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy last year.

"My being here is not political, it's emotional because I grew up here," the Asbury Park Press quoted Bon Jovi as saying outside Sayreville's borough hall Monday.

"I know that this $1 million sounds like a lot, but it is really just a drop in the bucket and I know there are people still suffering. But what I like to call the power of we coming together -- that means you, me, us -- we are taking a step today to rebuild lives."

Bon Jovi's $1 million donation went to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, which has thus far raised $38 million, the newspaper said.
