LOS ANGELES, June 29 (UPI) -- Beyonce launched her "Mrs. Carter Show" tour on the first day of the BET Experience, a three-day music festival leading up to the BET Awards in Los Angeles.

Tens of thousands of people gathered at a variety of venues across the city to catch acts by artists including Mike Epps, Erykah Badu, Mali Music, the Rap Pack and Kimberly Nichole, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole were scheduled to perform Saturday and the festival wraps up Sunday with the BET Awards and a performance by R. Kelly, the Times said.

The BET Experience is the first of what is expected to be an annual event, the newspaper said.
