LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- Los Angeles city prosecutors say singer Chris Brown has been officially charged with driving without a valid license and hit-and-run.

The misdemeanors stem from an incident in which the recording artist allegedly rear-ended another vehicle May 21, then left the scene without exchanging information with the other driver.

Since Brown is on probation for assaulting his girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, he could spend six months in prison if convicted of the motor-vehicle offenses, The Hollywood Reporter said.
