Carrie Underwood donates $1M to Red Cross for tornado relief

NASHVILLE, May 24 (UPI) -- Country music star Carrie Underwood announced she is donating $1 million to the Red Cross to aid Oklahoma tornado victims.

"I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness," Underwood said in a statement Thursday.

"With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornadoes."

The natural disaster, which ripped through the town of Moore Monday, killed 24 people, injured 240 and displaced tens of thousands.
