LOS ANGELES, May 23 (UPI) -- Aretha Franklin's spokesman says the U.S. music icon is taking off the month of June, but he didn't say why.

Franklin, 71, will reschedule two shows and resume her touring schedule in July, her publicist David Brokaw told Billboard.com this week.

The Grammy Award-winning artist recently announced she was canceling scheduled concerts in Chicago and Connecticut this week to undergo medical treatment for an unspecified illness.
