LOS ANGELES, April 29 (UPI) --
U.S. actor-comedian Jamie Foxx
is in talks to star in an update of the musical "Annie" with 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis, The Hollywood Reporter said.
Foxx would play the Daddy Warbucks character but with the name Benjamin Staks, the newspaper said. Hundred-dollar bills are sometimes called "Benjamins."
Wallis will play spunky orphan Annie in the film Sony Pictures Entertainment is making with producers Will Smith and Jay-Z.
Wallis played Hushpuppy in last year's critically acclaimed "Beasts of the Southern Wild," a role for which she became the youngest actress ever to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Will Gluck, who directed the 2011 romantic comedy "Friends With Benefits," starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, will direct the new "Annie."
