LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles judge has sentenced R&B artist Bobby Brown to 55 days in jail for driving under the influence and with a suspended license, records show.
He is to report to jail March 20, Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan told E! News, confirming Brown's no contest plea and sentence Tuesday.
The 55-year-old singer also was placed on 48 months summary probation and ordered to pay fees, complete an 18-month alcohol program and install an ignition interlock device that prohibits the driver from starting the car if his or her blood alcohol content is over a certain limit, E! News said.
Brown's license was suspended due to a prior conviction for driving under the influence.
The singer is the ex-husband of recording artist Whitney Houston, who died in February 2012. The couple had a stormy relationship fueled by drug and alcohol abuse and their 14-year marriage ended in 2007.
