LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Billie Joe Armstrong, front man for the U.S. rock band Green Day, told Rolling Stone years of alcohol and prescription drug abuse led to his 2012 rehab stint.

"I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night," Armstrong, 41, told the magazine. "I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout."

Green Day canceled its planned concert tour last fall after Armstrong ranted on stage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas because he thought his group's set was cut short to make way for other acts.

The band later said it had as much time as expected and apologized for Armstrong's behavior. The singer then headed for rehab.

"I remember tiny things," Armstrong told Rolling Stone about the highly publicized incident. "The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, 'How bad was it?' She said, 'It's bad.' I called my manager. He said, 'You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately.'"

Now that Armstrong has addressed his demons, Green Day has rescheduled its tour and will now kick off its string of shows March 28 in Chicago. The tour will wrap in Quebec City April 12.
