Daft Punk signs with Columbia Records

NEW YORK, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Columbia Records has signed French duo Daft Punk to a deal, though details about a fourth album are few, a source told The Hollywood Reporter.

"It's a done deal," the source, whose name was not reported, told the entertainment industry publication.

The highly influential electronic dance music group's previous recordings were through Virgin Records, now owned by Universal. The only exception was Disney's "Tron: Legacy," which was scored by Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter.

The move marks a new era in music for Sony Music, which owns Columbia Records and recently announced an alliance with Ultra Records, a leading electronic dance music label, The Hollywood Reporter reported Saturday.

French newspaper Le Parisien said the group would release an album by spring.
