HEBER SPRINGS, Ark., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Troubled country music artist Mindy McCready says singer-songwriter David Wilson, her boyfriend of two years, has died at home in Heber Springs, Ark.

"David was my soul mate," McCready said in a statement Monday. "He was a precious gift from God to all of us and, yesterday, he returned home and is now with his mother and father. David loved and was loved. Those who knew and loved him will miss him; those who did not know David missed the opportunity to know a truly loving and gifted man."

People.com said the cause of Wilson's death Sunday was not immediately disclosed and no funeral plans have been made yet.

Wilson, 34, is the father of McCready's 9-month-old son.

McCready's once-bright career has been sidelined in recent years by her substance abuse issues, suicide attempts and legal woes.
