ASBURY PARK, N.J., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- The late E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons was honored by his son and fellow musicians at a sold-out show in Asbury Park, N.J.
Clarence "Nick" Clemons III told NJ.com last week that the Saturday night event was a chance to honor his late father "on stage, a place where he shed so much sweat and blood."
"The Big Man would be proud," said Clemons, 43.
The late Clemons died on June 18, 2011, of complications caused by a stroke he suffered on June 12, 2011.
The lineup at the show featured Clemons' band, The Nick Clemons Band, as well as performances from Steve Smith and The Nakeds, JT Bowen, Jobonanno & The Godsons, Marc Ribler & Friends, Woodfish, Alexandra Inglis, and C.J. Rare.
After the bands played, everyone in attendance sang "Happy Birthday" in honor of the late Clemons, who would have turned 71 on Friday.
The event also featured a silent auctions with proceeds going to a pair of Jersey Shore music programs that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
"My father spent a lot of time trying to help the community and, after he passed, I decided to put my energy to charity work," Clemons said last week. "It's something that he instilled in us and something I want to instill in my kids."
