Mothers of Invention rocker Ray Collins dead at 73

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Ray Collins, original lead singer for the rock band Mothers of Invention, has died, said California's Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. He was 73.

Variety said the former Soul Giants musician was admitted to the hospital Dec. 18 in full cardiac arrest and had been in a medically induced coma until he died Monday.

The exact cause was not immediately disclosed.
