MIAMI, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Star rapper Lil Wayne has paid almost $8 million to cover back federal taxes and get rid of liens on his South Florida home, court records show.

The singer is now in the clear with the Internal Revenue Service, the Miami Herald's Gossip Extra column reports.

Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., owed the Internal Revenue Service millions of dollars for unpaid taxes and penalties dating back to 2002, according to court records. Last year, when he paid $11.6 million for a mansion on La Gorce Island in Miami Beach the IRS put three liens on the property.

According to records in Miami-Dade County, Lil Wayne owed $3,351,077.95 for 2008 and $2,258,956.04 for 2009. He paid a total of $7.72 million to square things up.
