NEW YORK, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery says he is donating proceeds from a New York concert to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.

McCreery played New York's Beacon Theater Friday and told the crowd the show was being turned into a benefit with a cut of the ticket sales going to World Vision and its Sandy relief efforts.

"Being from North Carolina, I have seen firsthand what hurricanes can do," McCreery said. "After seeing the devastation caused by Sandy, I wanted to figure out a way to help."

McCreery, 19, was in New York to promote his new Christmas album. As an extra treat for the audience, fellow season 10 finalist and native New Yorker Pia Toscano came on stage to join McCreery for a duet of "Let it Snow," The Hollywood Reporter said.
