LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Singer Bobby Brown has been arrested in Los Angeles for a second time this year for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, TMZ reported.

Police stopped Brown's vehicle at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning after he was observed driving erratically.

The recording artist was arrested after police detected a strong odor of alcohol when they approached his car. They then had Brown perform a field sobriety test, which he failed, TMZ said.

Brown, 43, was previously arrested for DUI in March. He pleaded guilty to the charge, was placed on probation and underwent treatment for alcohol abuse issues during the summer. He also was convicted of DUI in 1996.

The singer's ex-wife, Grammy Award-winner Whitney Houston, accidentally drowned in a hotel bathtub in February after using drugs. She was 48.
