LONDON, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Britain's Rod Stewart says he had so much sex as a young rock star he became bored by it when he was still in his 20s.

Stewart, 67, told The Daily Mail so many women threw themselves at him and fellow band member Ronnie Wood, they lost count of how many they had sex with.

"Women literally threw themselves at [our band] The Faces 'cos we were cute and we were British," Stewart told the newspaper. "Me and Ronnie just got tired of sex after a while, and we were only in our early 20s. Come to think of it, we always got more fun out of each other, me and Ronnie, than we did with the girls we were with. You can't understand it if you haven't been through it, but we were literally peeling the girls off us."

The thrice-wed father of eight, who has been married to model Penny Lancaster since 2007, said he slowed down decades ago because he realized his promiscuous behavior was "sad" and "depressing," and what he really wanted was to fall in love.

He also admitted he is not quite as sexually active these days as he used to be.

"I don't get as much as I used to," he told the Mail.

"Once kids come along, it's not as frequent."
