Paris wants distance from MJ's fame

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Paris Jackson, the daughter of the late U.S. pop icon Michael Jackson, says she hopes to step out from her father's shadow and "show that I do have talent."

She told Glamour Magazine she's worried her father's fame might hurt her attempts at an acting career.

"A lot of people think he's the only reason I'm making it," Paris Jackson, 14, said. "But I want to show that I do have talent and that I can make it if I try. I want to be my own person."

Paris Jackson told the magazine she wants to be an award-winning actress and is being encouraged to make a career in the entertainment industry by her aunt, La Toya Jackson.

"Aunt La Toya believes in me," she told Glamour. "She heard me play a little guitar and sing, and she started clapping. 'Oh my God, oh my God.' She really does encourage me, it's just awesome of her."

Janet Jackson, though, has been vocal about trying to keep her young niece out of the spotlight, the New York Daily News reported.

"You lose so much of your childhood in this industry," she told ABC News. "I told [Paris], I said, 'You should really take your time to enjoy your youth to the utmost.'"
