MEMPHIS, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Priscilla Presley and her daughter, Lisa Marie, for the first time joined fans at their former home in Memphis to mark the anniversary of Elvis Presley's death.

USA Today said the rock 'n' roll icon's ex-wife, Priscilla, and only child surprised thousands of fans who gathered at Graceland Wednesday night to light candles and lay flowers on the singer's grave.

Elvis Presley died at home of a heart attack Aug. 16, 1977 after battling an addiction to prescription drugs. He was 42.
