LOS ANGELES, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Bobby Brown's attorney confirmed the singer has been undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation center as part of his plea deal in a Los Angeles DUI case.

The location and the name of the facility, as well as when he is scheduled for discharge, were not disclosed.

Brown, who was married to the late singer Whitney Houston from 1992 to 2007, has long battled substance-abuse issues and sought treatment numerous times through the years. He was arrested for drunken driving weeks after Houston accidentally drowned in a Beverly Hills, Calif., hotel bathroom after using cocaine in February.

Brown was fined $390 and ordered to attend a 90-day alcohol-education program after pleading no contest to driving under the influence in April.

"Mr. Brown takes his agreement very seriously and admitted himself three weeks after concluding his honeymoon in Mexico during a break from the New Edition tour," his attorney Christopher Brown said in a statement to People.com Thursday. "Bobby is doing well and receiving services that comply with his agreement with the state of California."

Brown's wife and manager, Alicia Etheredge, issued a separate statement Wednesday, saying: "Bobby's children and loved ones are very proud of him. We appreciate his fans' prayers and well wishes. Bobby is mentally in a good place."
