MIAMI, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- U.S. singer R. Kelly said he pulled out of a set of cruise ship performances because the company could not pay what it promised.

Concert Cruise LLC had booked the singer to headline its "Love Letter" cruise for two shows during a five-day trip in October from Miami to the Caribbean, TMZ reported Saturday.

R. Kelly told TMZ he canceled the performances because Concert Cruise never paid him.

"R. Kelly had been looking forward to the cruise and was ready, willing and able to perform for fans. He is sorry for any disappointment but plans to see his fans very soon on a U.S. tour," the singer's representative told TMZ.

Concert Cruise sent an e-mail to customers to notify them of the cancellation, saying it will "handle all applicable refunds at point of purchase."
