NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Producers of the musical "Diner" said they have canceled plans to test the show in San Francisco ahead of its Broadway debut in April.

Instead of performing the musical as a tryout at the Curran in San Francisco in October and November, the production will stay in New York City with a plan to rearrange the staging to fit a smaller venue, Variety reported.

With the current logjam in Broadway real estate, producers said they were concerned they wouldn't be able to secure a New York venue as large as the 1,650-seat Curran.

It's likely "Diner" will find itself in a smaller house usually reserved for plays between 1,000 and 1,200 seats. If so, producers said they wouldn't have had time to readjust the show following a San Francisco run, Variety reported.

Producers said they still hope to take the show to San Francisco for a tryout stint at a smaller venue before opening April 10 in New York.
