NEW YORK, July 26 (UPI) -- "A Christmas Story, The Musical!" is to open on Broadway at The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre this holiday season, producers announced Thursday.

Based on the classic 1983 movie, the stage show will play in New York from Nov. 5 to Dec. 30. It began an out-of-town tour last year with stops in Hershey, Pa.; Detroit; Raleigh, N.C.; Tampa, Fla.; and Chicago.

Casting for the Broadway production is soon to be announced, the producers said.

"In 1940s Indiana, a bespectacled boy named Ralphie has a big imagination and one wish for Christmas -- a Red Ryder BB Gun. A kooky leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a cranky department store Santa, and a triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the obstacles that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas dream," a synopsis said.

The film's original Ralphie, actor-producer Peter Billingsley, is producing the show.
