Springsteen, McCartney concert cut short

LONDON, July 15 (UPI) -- Bruce Springsteen brought music legend Paul McCartney on stage for a concert finale in London only for the electricity to be cut mid-song for noise curfew.

It was the first time the two rockers had collaborated on stage as the two played a rendition of "I Saw Her Standing There," which segued into "Twist and Shout" before prematurely going quiet, CNN reported.

"I gotta tell you, I've been trying to do this for 50 years," Springsteen told the 65,000-member crowd Saturday in London's Hyde Park.

London's Westminster Council said concert organizers cut the power because they "were sticking to their license for the event."

The Hyde Park concert series, which bring in funds to the parks management, has seen a number of restrictions in the past year due to complaints from nearby residents, the BBC reported. The number of events has been cut from 13 to nine, the crowd size has been reduced from 80,000 to 65,000 and noise restrictions have been implemented.

"Springsteen and McCartney: Only in Britain could a local council pull the plug on the greatest artists of the last 50 years giving it all," British journalist Richard James tweeted about the incident.
