JERSEY CITY, N.J., July 15 (UPI) -- Uruguayan rock star Marcel Curuchet died in a New Jersey hospital of injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident, officials said.

Curuchet, 40, lost control of a motorcycle he was riding to New York Thursday afternoon and was thrown from the bike into the concrete barrier along the highway, The Jersey Journal, Jersey City, N.J., reported.

He was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition Friday, police said.

Curuchet's band, No Te Va Gustar, for which he played keyboards, informed fans of his death Saturday via their Facebook page.

"With the deepest sorrow we announce the death of our colleague and friend Marcel Curuchet," the band's message said.
