NEW YORK, July 14 (UPI) -- A New York clothing designer has filed a lawsuit against rapper Jay-Z saying he is owed $7 million in royalties for designing the Roc-A-fella label logo.

Dwayne Walker said in the copyright infringement suit he came up with the logo -- featuring the letter R, a record and a champagne bottle -- in 1995 when the record label started out, MTV.com reported. The fashion designer said he saw the label co-founder Damon Dash was planning on using and told him he could create something better.

"The logo has become universally recognized as an iconic symbol of Jay-Z, one of the most successful recording artists in the history of popular music," the suit said.

Walker filed the suit in Manhattan Federal Court Thursday, the New York Daily News reported.
