Florence Welch suffers throat ailment

British recording star Florence Welch announced via Twitter she has injured her voice and won't be singing for at least a week.

LONDON, July 12 (UPI) -- British recording star Florence Welch announced via Twitter she has injured her voice and won't be singing for at least a week.

"hello everyone, thankyou so much for all your messages of support, yes its true..it finally happened, I've lost my voice..:( I've sustained a vocal injury and been told i cannot sing for a week.., seriously i felt something snap, it was very frightening," the Florence + the Machine singer tweeted Wednesday.

"unfortunately this means i will not be able to perform at Benicassim and Optimus alive festival this weekend..i am so so sorry.. im so sorry to all the fans, i was desperate to still perform, but was told without question not to, so as not to do permanent damage..x I hope i can make it up to you in the future, have an amazing time...yours croakily florence...x : ( xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

Welch was to perform at Benicassim in Spain and Optimus Alive in Portugal this weekend.

Update: On July 12, at 4:50am EST Welch posted a tweet reading, "Feeling much better today, all your #spectrum love keeping my spirits up. #silentbutshining #croakylove
