LONDON, June 26 (UPI) -- A new stage show penned by comedian Jennifer Saunders and featuring the music of the Spice Girls is to open in London in December, producers said.

Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell -- original members of the now-defunct pop group -- helped announce plans for the musical "Viva Forever!" Tuesday, the BBC reported.

Set to open at the Piccadilly Theatre Dec. 11, the show was conceived by Judy Craymer, producer of the ABBA musical "Mamma Mia!"

The BBC quoted Craymer as describing Saunders as a "brilliant collaborator."

"She understands the anxieties in women, the fear of judgment and trepidation that one day they get to a certain age and become invisible," Craymer said.

A synopsis said "Viva Forever!" is "the story of a beautiful, talented girl and her best friends who get swept up in the obsession of today's TV celebrity culture."
