GLENDALE, Calif., June 25 (UPI) -- A group of fans from all over the world mobilized through social media sent more than 10,000 roses to Michael Jackson's tomb in Glendale, Calif., TMZ reported.

The gesture was to commemorate the third anniversary of Jackson's death Monday.

The pop music icon was 50 years old when he died from an accidental overdose of anesthesia and sedatives administered by his personal physician, who is serving prison time for involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson's death.

TMZ said most of the flowers placed outside Jackson's tomb at Forest Lawn Memorial Park will be sent this week to senior centers and other places where they can be enjoyed by the living.
