LONDON, June 8 (UPI) -- A production of the Broadway musical "The Book of Mormon" is to open in London next year, producers announced.
The New York staging of the show by "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone won nine Tony Awards last June and has been one of the Great White Way's hottest tickets for more than a year.
"The Book of Mormon" is to begin preview performances Feb. 25 at London's Prince of Wales theater, home to the long-running ABBA musical "Mamma Mia," which will move to another venue in September, the BBC said.
Featuring extensive profanity and scatological humor, "Mormon" tells the story of how two missionaries try to convert Ugandan villagers facing poverty and strife unlike anything the naive visitors could imagine. While one of the young men is overwhelmed, the second attempts to teach the villagers about God in a way to which they can relate, inspiring them to hope for better lives.
