STRATFORD, N.J., March 31 (UPI) -- A New Jersey high school senior who has battled leukemia twice said it's "insane" he's singer Taylor Swift's date to the Academy of Country Music Awards.

Kevin McGuire, a senior at Sterling Regional High School in Stratford, said he hopes his blood cell and hemoglobin counts are good enough for him to make the trip to Las Vegas for the Sunday awards show, the Cherry Hill (N.J.) Courier-Post reported Saturday. He has a break in his chemotherapy, though last week he underwent five days of five-hour treatments.

"I know, it's insane," McGuire said Thursday. "I need to start packing. I don't even have a suitcase. That's how delayed I am."

McGuire's date with Swift came after the 18-year-old's sister, Victoria McGuire created the Facebook page "Taylor Swift take KEVIN MCGUIRE TO PROM!" Swift responded.

"Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom," the singer wrote. "But I was wondering, the (Academy of Country Music) Awards are coming up …Would you be my date? Love, Taylor."

Swift has arranged for McGuire's tuxedo to be taken care of, as well as travel and accommodations for him and his family to go to Las Vegas.
