LOS ANGELES, March 26 (UPI) -- R&B star Bobby Brown was arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly driving while intoxicated after police pulled him over for talking on his phone, TMZ reported.

Brown, a singer with the vocal group New Edition, has been back in the spotlight since his ex-wife, recording star Whitney Houston, drowned last month in a hotel bathtub after using cocaine.

Brown and Houston, who both battled addictions to drugs and alcohol over the years, have one child together, 19-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina.

TMZ said Brown was arrested Monday afternoon and was in custody at the Van Nuys jail.

The singer has a history of arrests for battery, motor vehicle-related offenses and parole violations, the celebrity news Web site said.
