NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Television actor Tony Danza is to star in a Broadway musical based on the 1992 film "Honeymoon in Vegas" in spring 2013, the show's producers said Monday.

James Caan, Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker starred in the big-screen comedy.

The musical version is scheduled to open in New York following a run this November in Toronto. The show will feature music and lyrics by Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown and a book by Andrew Bergman, the director and screenwriter of the film about Jack Singer, a regular guy with an extreme fear of marriage.

Gary Griffin is to direct the stage version.

"When his girlfriend Betsy puts the pressure on, Jack finally pops the question and they head to Sin City for a whirlwind wedding weekend," a synopsis said. "But when Vegas wise guy Tommy Korman catches a glimpse of the stunning bride-to-be, and notices her uncanny resemblance to his late wife, he does everything possible to break up the romance and get his own second chance at love."

Danza, known for his work in the sitcoms "Taxi" and "Who's the Boss?," is to play Korman.

He appeared on Broadway and in Las Vegas as Max Bialystock in Mel Brooks' hit musical "The Producers," and earned acclaim on Broadway as Eddie in the 1997 production of "A View from the Bridge."

Additional casting and creative team for "Honeymoon in Vegas" will be confirmed shortly, the producers said.
