FERNIE, British Columbia, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- American pop star and actor Justin Timberlake celebrated his 31st birthday enjoying winter sports at a resort in British Columbia, Postmedia News said.

Timberlake, an avid snowboarder, spent the weekend in Fernie, checking out a resort specializing in high alpine skiing accessible only by snowmobile, the report said.

"One of our employees had quite the interesting experience," Commit Snow & Skate owner Adam Laurin told the newspaper about how Timberlake popped in to buy ski equipment. "It was one of those 'no way, no way, that's not him' moments."

"He was cat-skiing," an unidentified Fernie resident and ski shop employee said. "They take you up into different areas and drop you off, no chairlift, no tracks, and you get to make clean lines. ... There was a lot of talk in town. Lots of word of mouth. A lot of people had heard about it or knew about it."
