ASHLAND, Ore., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. folk singer John Denver's final song, which he performed but never had a chance to record in a studio, has been made into a music video.

"The Wandering Soul (Love Is the Answer)," which Denver wrote in the early to mid-1990s, was turned into the music video by Oregon author-filmmaker-musician James Twyman, who posted it on YouTube as "a powerful way to honor John and the contributions he has made to the planet," Twyman's Spiritual Peacemaking YouTube channel said.

The song, which Denver performed at a 1995 symposium at his non-profit Windstar Foundation, tells the story of a lost soul in the modern world seeking an answer to why he doesn't have inner peace -- only to discover the answer is love, which cannot truly be found outside but is always available within one's heart.

"I was immediately moved," Twyman wrote in an e-mail to fans, "not just because it was significant that [Denver] never had the chance to share the song [through a studio recording], but because it was one of the best, most spiritual songs he ever wrote."

Twyman said he learned of the song from one of Denver's friends.

Denver -- best known for "Sunshine on My Shoulders," "Take Me Home, Country Roads," "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Rocky Mountain High" -- died in 1997 when his personal aircraft crashed into the Pacific Ocean near Pacific Grove, Calif.

His music earned 12 gold and four platinum albums.
